San Martin, first Natural Reserve of the Civil Society of La Guajira

"In this first Reserve of the Civil Society, we are going to work hand in hand with its owner and with the Nations Natural Parks Unit, under sustainability criteria that guarantee its conservation, preservation and restoration of the natural ecosystems found in it, thus allowing the generation of environmental goods and services ", Romero Perez explains Arcesio, General Manager Corpoguajira.

The registered area is located in the town of Tomarrazón (Riohacha) and has an extension of 13 hectares and 200 meters. As a conservation objective, the protection of original tropical dry forest covers in different successional states stands out., to guarantee its optimal development and long-term existence through the permanent maintenance of the vegetation focused on the consolidation of species typical of this ecosystem.

Zoning of the San Martín Civil Society Reserve, It was conformed as follows:

Conservation Zone: Play an important role in the conservation of this life zone, because it is one of the most threatened and least represented ecosystems in the National System of Protected Areas. Plant species are represented by snail individuals, ceiba, Oak, corozo palm, bitter palm, guamacho, trupillo, divisivi, silk cotton, yours yours, inter.

There are also species of fauna such as the rabbit, chipmunk, armadillo, anteater, mono cotudo, fox and chestnut. Among the most representative birds, the owl stands out, parrot carasucia, toche, bull blood, hawk, tile, inter alia.

Buffer zone and special handling: It is the area adjacent to the infrastructure area and the riverbed of the Tomarrazón river., affected by erosive processes and floods, for which it is proposed as a control or mitigation measure, the implementation of reforestation projects with native vegetation.

Agrosystems zone: It is intended for sustainable agricultural production for human and animal use, both for domestic consumption and for the generation of a marketable surplus. In this area, the development of sustainable demonstration plots is proposed, that will be supported by the Green Markets program carried out by Corpoguajira.

Intensive use zone and infrastructure: There cabins or ecohabs will be located for lodging, a restaurant, a watcher, electrical and sanitary installations, fixed machinery, basic sanitation areas, education, Recreation and sports.

In this Reserve, activities that lead to the preservation and recovery of populations of native fauna may be carried out, maintaining the habitats required for the survival of wildlife populations; educación ambiental, ecotourism and basic research.

The Natural Reserves of Civil Society, They are private protected areas established at the will of the owners of properties dedicated to the conservation of samples of natural ecosystems. In these reserves, in addition to conservation, you can also have sustainable production systems, ecotourism, environmental education and permanent housing, among other activities.
