Taking into account the strategic importance that the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta represents (SNSM), in terms of biological diversity, water security and the preservation of the cultural identity that is generated there by the indigenous peoples who inhabit it; representatives of the CARs and Governments of La Guajira, Magdalena and Cesar; of the Pro Sierra Nevada Foundation and the National Natural Parks Unit, They agreed at a technical table on the actions to be developed for the preservation of this important ecosystem.
As part of the established commitments, wills and resources will be combined to consolidate a Plan Contract that serves as a tool for inter-institutional coordination between different levels of government., to carry out and finance strategic territorial development projects with medium and long-term projection.
Additionally, the participation of indigenous groups in the SNSM region will be motivated in order to obtain its viability., collecting your vision, focused on natural and cultural conservation and recovery; Likewise, a collaboration scheme for international cooperation will be designed., to execute the work plan to be implemented and a review of the documentation and environmental diagnoses available on the ecoregion will be carried out, for the preparation of the roadmap that will be defined in the coming days.
The proposal seeks an alliance between the environmental authorities of the region to carry out territorial planning with the objective of promoting and implementing actions for the conservation and natural and cultural recovery through conservation corridors at the eco-regional level., protection of strategic sites and community participation actions in the Sierra, while contributing to the preservation of natural areas that provide the ecosystem services of the region, highlighting the water resource as an axis or relevant point.
As a result, An Agreement Agreement was signed for the SNSM subregion, where the strategic importance of the massif is highlighted, its high biodiversity potential, guarantee of the water security demanded by the region and the preservation of cultural identity, cradle of the ancestral Kogi peoples, Wiwas, Arhuacos, Kankuamos and also inhabited by indigenous Chimilas and Wayúu; characteristics that make it a unique ecosystem worldwide; Its environmental and socio-economic problems are issues that require joint action, concerted and sustained over time.
