The Caribbean and Island Regional Climate Change Node met in Cartagena

In order to determine the operational actions, financial measures, logistics and administrative necessary to guarantee the operation of the Regional Climate Change Node of the Caribbean and Island Coast, as an instrument to articulate national management, regional and local according to the new guidelines on climate change environmental policy; several representatives of this organization met during the days 21 and 22 July 2011, at the facilities of the Canal del Dique Regional Autonomous Corporation (Pericardial).

Delegates from the Autonomous Corporations of La Guajira attended the event., Magdalena, Cease, Atlantic, Canal del Dique, of the Sinú and San Jorge Valleys, the CORALINA Autonomous Development Corporation, the Public Environmental Entity of Cartagena –EPA-, from the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development –MAVDT- with support from the United Nations Development Program –UNDP- , Institute of Marine and Coastal Research –INVEMAR- and ASOCARS.

"Under this context and given the national background, especially the effects generated by Climate Change in the last Winter Wave and the regulations applied to the subject, It became necessary to establish strategic alliances in order to work in coordination to improve the environment and contribute to sustainable development., using environmental education as fundamental tools, dissemination and training, identification, promotion and development of actions related to climate change, (MDL, adaptation, risk management and territorial planning) inter, Therefore, it is pertinent to move forward strategically to address this imminent need.” indicated Engineer Eliumat Maza Samper, CORPOGUAJIRA official and Regional Coordinator of the Node.

During the meeting, the following topics were discussed, among others.: Official presentation of the technical secretariat (INVEMAR), review of the new guidelines on environmental policy and new formation of the Nodes, The operational plan of actions of the Caribbean and Island Regional Node was established for the short, medium and long term, The presentation of the project to strengthen institutional capacities in risk management and climate change was carried out, A successful experience on this topic was presented by INVEMAR and the possible inclusion of other entities that wish to belong to the Regional Node was analyzed..
