September 16 of 2014: International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

By

Juan Jose Peñaranda Arregocés

At the UN General Assembly, proclaimed from 1994, each 16 September, International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
To join this great environmental date, Today, Corpoguajira advances awareness-raising sessions related to the protection of the fragile layer of gas that protects the Earth from harmful solar rays, helping to safeguard life on the planet.
The elimination of controlled uses of substances that deplete this important gas, not only have they contributed to protecting the ozone layer for present and future generations, but also greatly favor the development of global initiatives aimed at dealing with climate change; in addition, have protected human health and ecosystems, reducing the ultraviolet radiation that reaches the Earth.
How to help preserve the ozone layer?
*Avoid the purchase and subsequent consumption of aerosols or spray in whose composition chlorofluorocarbon gases intervene (CFC).
*Avoid the use of fire extinguishers containing halons, very aggressive substance for the ozone layer.
*Check that the insulating material you buy does not contain (CFC), you can use dark agglomerated cork instead, that fulfills the same function and does not pollute the environment.
*Maintain your air conditioners properly, since its malfunction causes the leakage of CFCs into the atmosphere.
*Call a technician if you notice that the freezer is not working properly., as it may leak. The same goes for air conditioning in cars..
*Shop for home appliances and energy efficient light bulbs.
