In actions of surveillance and control of natural resources and the environment, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira - Corpoguajira- has been leading a series of operations for the protection and conservation of the same, with the accompaniment of the public force.

This time, an operation was carried out in conjunction with the Army, Cartagena Battalion, in the Rio Negro basin, Rio Ancho village, rural sector of Dibulla, where it was established that earthworks are being carried out to obtain mineral and that due to the type of equipment and tools it is gold. This type of activity affects the soil and vegetation cover. Similarly, the area is contaminated with plastics, oils and other minerals used for the extraction of gold such as mercury.

It could be verified, also, that the site where the illegal mining is being carried out does not have any environmental permit to carry out channel occupation activity, forestry, o environmental license for the exploitation of minerals in the department of La Guajira. Therefore, the illegal mining activity was immediately suspended..

Corpoguajira invites the inhabitants of the department to comply with the procedures enshrined in environmental regulations at the time of needing to carry out an intervention that affects the natural resources of our jurisdiction and avoid incurring in this way in illicit damage to natural resources and illicit exploitation of mining deposits and other materials.
