"Adopt a turtle and carry it in your heart", is part of the conservation program for marine turtles Corpoguajira, which through a series of participatory activities between different stakeholders, functions as a support tool that promotes conservation of these turtles in the department of La Guajira.
La Guajira is one of the country's key sites for the conservation of sea turtles, because in this department artisanal fishing and consumption of their meat and eggs, are a traditional activity for the Wayuu ethnic group and for some people in the region. These practices lead to the deterioration of natural populations and contribute to the loss of biodiversity in Colombia.
On the planet there are seven species of sea turtles. Four of them live in La Guajira. Turtles live among 150 a 200 years and reach sexual maturity between 15 and 20 years old. It is estimated that for every thousand sea turtle hatchlings, only one reaches adulthood.
Corpoguajira invite Asocars and especially the inhabitants of the capital of the country for them to integrate into the network of sponsors, which is already formed by schools, universities, individuals, media and public and private companies.
