SEA TURTLES BACK HOME

Thanks to the operation developed by the National Police, they got better 16 Carey sea turtle species and Green, at kilometer 67 between Riohacha and Maicao by way tertiary. In the diligence it was verified that the species were going to be commercialized in the municipality of Maicao.

During the seizure they determined that 2 of them had died from stress, given the trauma caused by being in captivity and another of them was dismembered, which led to the release of 13 turtles (8 Carey y 5 Verdes).

The turtles were delivered to officials of the Subdirectorate of Environmental Management of Corpoguajira for the purposes relevant to their release., which took place on the beaches of the Valle de Los Cangrejos in the District of Riohacha

For their release they were evaluated by the Corporation's professionals., who in turn incorporated a microchip in one of their upper fins that would allow them to be identified in the place where they undertake their journey..

Let us remember that the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (UICN), considers the hawksbill turtle to be a critically endangered species; while the green turtle, It is classified as an endangered species..
