JOIN THE WORLD'S LARGEST PAJAREADA

Global Big Day, an adventure of color and song.

This One 04 May the whole world will fulfill the appointment for the world's largest pajareada, the Global Big Day the activity that summons ornithologists and nature lovers to spot birds and add them to the e-Bird world platform.

Colombia is two-time world champion in bird species sighted in a single day.

The immediately preceding year, the country reported 1.550 species of which La Guajira contributed the 17,5% represented in 272 bird species in a day. The e-bird platform informs that in La Guajira there are 512 species and the goal this year is to spot 372 types.

For bird watching were chosen 15 places that offer special habitat for the development of several exclusive species of dry forests typical of La Guajira, more of 150 migratory bird species that choose the temporary visit due to the strategic geographical location of the peninsula and a variety of aquatic birds.

Punta Gallinas, PNN La Macuira, DMI Musichi, SFF Los Flamencos - Shrimp, Ecoencanto Nature Reserve – Well Garcia, Ebanal-Matitas Corridor, AICA Cuenca Alta San Salvador – Wide river, reserve Miramar, Refugio Guajiro Pablo Laserna la Enea La Punta, RFP Montes de Oca, DMI Serrania de Perija (The colonies – Marimondas – Sierra Azul), PNR Cerro Pintao and DMI Delta of the Ranchería River, are the places chosen this time to develop the ornithology activity.

The novelty this year is that in addition to a greater number of places to watch the birds, the birding will feature experts of the stature of Francisco Troncoso, Anderson Rosado, Lenix Lazaro, Expert guides of Dry Forests and Guajira Birding led by ornithologist Jose Luis Pushaina.

This activity coordinated worldwide by Cornell University E.U., offers a virtual platform that can be downloaded through the e-Bird application on cell phones to report the sighting of species and immediately acquire information on the bird.

Last year it was evidenced that South America is the region with the highest number of bird species recorded with 2.811, followed by Eurasia with 1.770 and North America with 1.627.
