CORPOGUAJIRA CELEBRATES THE DAY OF THE TREE WITH THE PLANTING OF 40.000 TREES

La Guajira Sows Life! The fifteen municipalities of the department celebrated Arbor Day together

The day in Riohacha was attended by the Governor of the Department and the Mayor of the District.

Riohacha, 12 October 2020

With the active participation of institutions, community, public force and the private sector, the arbor day celebration was held in the department. The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, led the campaign "La Guajira Siembra Vida", With which it is expected to close this year with the planting of one hundred thousand trees and thus reach the goal of one million five hundred thousand seedlings established in the Guajiro territory at the end of the four-year period.

This important goal contributes to the national objective of sowing 180 million trees in the country, CORPOGUAJIRA advances in the generation of sustainable development in the territory, raising awareness about the importance of conserving ecosystems and creating green lungs in urban areas.

The intervention includes ten rivers: Rancheria, Cease, Tapias, Maluisa, Sherry, Reeds, Villanueva, Lagarto, Batatal, Black and wide river; the fifteen municipalities and strategic ecosystems that provide water to different populations such as the Montes de Oca Forest Reserve, the Cañaverales Spring, Cerro Bañaderos, Serranía de Perijá and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

The sowing day was a sample of the success that can be obtained by achieving the articulation of efforts, the Government of the Department, all municipalities, Community and environmental leaders were key to the development of the activity in each of the points; also, with the support of private sector companies such as Grupo de Energía de Bogotá, Enel Green Power, Interaseo, Ecopetrol, Cerrejón and Hocol could increase the number of trees to be planted.

Native and closed forest species such as the yaguaro, fine heart, Campania, ceiba bonga and snail and fruit trees, including mango, medlar, guanábana and mamón cotoprix have been established for the generation of microclimates, oxygen production, increase water supply and avoid erosion.

CORPOGUAJIRA invites the inhabitants of La Guajira to join this initiative with which it is intended to reach every corner of the department, sowing life for these and future generations.
