Corpoguajira evaluated air quality in the mining corridor of La Guajira, during the third quarter of 2014

The contribution of emissions did not exceed the provisions of Colombian regulations. Corpoguajira made recommendations to have an efficient environmental control in the area.

Through Monitoring Air Quality Program, Corpoguajira constantly determines the degree of contamination or contribution of particulate matter by the coal operators operating in the region. In this sense, during the third quarter of 2014 were obtained 1.698 samples distributed in 19 stations that make up the system for monitoring the environmental authority.

Through this study Corpoguajira established that during the period under review did not show a significant contribution of particulate emissions from coal, due to rainfall in recent months, however some stations showed an increasing trend in relation to the daily norm.

Corpoguajira recommended not to neglect the coal companies that have implemented controls and establish effective measures in the dry season looming, and the temporary closure of some fronts jobs, to decrease, even more, the contributions of particulate matter Stocks direct influence.

The environmental authority plans conducting a workbench with actors and entities related to this topic, to raise and propose the creation of projects and initiatives to improve air quality in the peninsula and thus the health of communities exposed to mineral particles.

With this work, Corpoguajira complies with the provisions of the Act 99 of 1993, Code of Natural Resources, Decree 948 of 1995 and Resolution 610 of 2010, among other environmental provisions of the country
