The aforementioned, is based on the technical report made by the commission made up of officials from the Environmental Authority Subdirectorate and the Environmental Management Subdirectorate; where indicates that the area of greatest probability of collision that birds have with power lines, is located in the embankment area, that serves as access to the El Cardón community.
The report also indicates that the flamingos did not die from receiving an electric shock., because the networks are not energized; but due to injuries caused when colliding with the steel cords of the power lines. also points out, that the accidents of the species occur in hours of low light, when they arrive in the area or migrate to other wetlands.
That the El Cardón wetland is of great importance for flamingos and other migratory birds, since in times of rain it becomes a feeding and resting area for the species.
The power lines correspond to the “Uribia-Cardón-Cabo de la Vela Interconnection” project., financed by IPSE and executed by the municipality of Uribía.
It is important to note, that the Corporation has not granted any environmental permit for this work; whereby, will proceed in accordance with the environmental sanctioning regime. Therefore, The municipality of Uribía must respond for the environmental damage and for the death of 26 pink flamingos (Red Phoenix), species that is in the vulnerable threat category, according to the resolution 0192 of 2014 of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
