Declared by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira as a protective forest reserve, Montes de Oca is part of the 9 conservation of protected areas in the department.

With its natural attractions it covers 12.294 hectares of the territory, crossing the municipalities of Maicao and Albania. A paradise surrounded by dry forests and sub-xerophytic scrub.

Among its responsibilities is to protect species such as: the green macaw, la loose, the partridge and the cardonera palaoma. At the same time, preserves the landscape values ​​present in the area, so that they can be used in activities of contemplation and passive recreation.
