Institutions and civil society articulated by the recovery of bodies of water in La Guajira

Ecodato: the Humboldt Institute and the Adaptation Fund, In its latest study between 2012 and 2015, They established that there are over 48.000 bodies of water in the national territory but that due to lack of awareness and misuse of them each year the 70% wetland area.

To commemorate world water day, The institutions that make up the district CIDEA organized themselves assigning tasks with which they managed to withdraw on a special day approximately 11 tons of solid waste from the wetland 15 de Mayo located in the La Esperanza neighborhood of Riohacha.

In this global challenge, motivated by the UN under the slogan "leave no one behind" assuming that the equality of human beings occurs in access to healthy water that allows a healthy world was led in La Guajira by Corpoguajira and the district CIDEA who viralized the achievement reached with the hashtag #BasuraChallege or #trashtag publishing on social networks the before and after of the place.

It should be noted that this day was carried out with the same strategy in the Manantial de Cañaverales corregimiento of San Juan and the Manantial del Molino led in the south of La Guajira by the territorial office of Corpoguajira and Fundación Preservar respectively. The Cañaverales Spring is a beautiful body of water that suffers from the unconsciousness of tourists and bathers who attend the place, causing contamination without any scruples..

Likewise, the youth network of the Riohacha node environment, linked to more than 100 of people in the educational process, playful and clean at Laguna Salá, reaching the liberation of a section of the same where more than 5 tons of solid waste including styrofoam, pet and disposable diapers.

Both the wetland of the 15 de Mayo and Laguna Salá are bodies of water in the urban basin of Riohacha that function as buffers for rainwater from neighboring neighborhoods. Their importance lies in the ecosystem services they offer as they help regulate the water cycle, as well as to absorb chemical pollutants, hydrological and atmospheric such as carbon dioxide and particulate matter.

With the cleaning of the wetlands and springs, Corpoguajira and the CIDEA institutions ratify the commitment to maintain the functioning of these natural lungs thanks to the adequate maintenance that allows the regulation of the water cycle.
