The Guiana dolphin, costanero known as dolphin is vulnerable, at the national level. With only 2 meters in length is the smallest of the dolphins in coastal waters, its dorsal coloration is gray or brown and abdominal surfaces pink; their fins are small and the dorsal fin triangular.
They have been in tropical coastal waters of the western Atlantic, from Honduras to southern Brazil. In some places along the platform of La Guajira it has been sighted in isolation and sporadic. Normally this species inhabits shallow coastal waters, bays and gulfs.
Dolphins gather in groups to catch shoals of fish which feed. Males mate with several females and groups of pups care. It has proven an alarming population reduction as a result of incidental mortality caused by fishing nets.
