The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, carries out inspection visits to the works being carried out in various parts of the region in order to ensure proper operation of the projects that promote sustainable development, consistent with the conservation of the environment.

In this regard, the Corporation socialized to traditional authority, leaders and members of the community Toroki (located in kilometer 4, road from Riohacha to Maicao), the implementation of the rehabilitation project of the supply system operated by groundwater windmill. As well as strengthening food security with the creation of a garden producing a variety of supplementary foods such as vegetables and vegetables.

The system consists of collecting water from a groundwater source through a windmill and is distributed to a storage tank. In the case of crops, a system of drip irrigation allows the earth remains suitable for the production was designed.

This project will directly benefit 168 residents of this community; while indirectly benefiting 80 people from neighboring communities Toroki.

The project includes the delivery of inputs (seeds), technical assistance and training for the community to be responsible for the use and maintenance of the system.

At the departmental level, his 16 the families with the implementation of this system. However, the Corporation seeks to benefit more than 70 families in order to ensure the supply of water and food security.

Besides Riohacha, This project is also implemented in other communities in the municipalities of Albania, Maicao, Manaure y Uribia.

It should be noted that this initiative was made by professionals Corpoguajira and submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, who through Incoder it signed an agreement with the Corporation for project implementation.
