Con el fin de realizar la construcción de nuevos aislamientos, restauración de aislamiento existente y reforestación protectora en las cuencas de los ríos Ranchería y Cesar, y sus afluentes, en el departamento de La Guajira; Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, contrató con la empresa Unión Temporal Cuencas del Sur, por un valor de $5.260.420.175, el establecimiento de 630 hectáreas de especies nativas con su respectivo aislamiento concerniente a 225 kilómetros en diferentes corrientes hídricas afluentes de éstas cuencas.

To date, construction has been carried out 26 nurseries for the production of 526.000 seedlings of native species, distributed in the municipalities of Barrancas Fonseca, Distracción, San Juan del Cesar, Villanueva, Urumita and La Jagua del Pilar.

The establishment of reforestation will be carried out with native species of the region, like annatto, Oak, melina, mahogany, Campania, the, inter. Sowing will be carried out during this month at a density of 5 x 4 meters, that is, a quantity of 625 trees per hectare.

To eradicate the presence of the leaf-leaf ant in nurseries, Corpoguajira has exercised effective control and monitoring by the technical assistants of the project, and the application of insecticides applied by micronebulization, directly into the anthills.

La destrucción de los bosques cercanos al nacimiento de los ríos tendrá dentro de sus principales consecuencias inmediatas y directas, la disminución de la oferta hídrica con destino al consumo humano a través de los acueductos públicos y para los usos en actividades agropecuarias, que son la principal vocación económica de la zona.
