Corpoguajira consolidates advances to el department, in integrated risk management and adaptation to climate change

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development, Institute of Marine and Coastal Research (INVEMAR), Association of Regional Autonomous Corporations and Sustainable Development (ASOCARS), the National System for Disaster Prevention and Attention and the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideas); signed in the year 2009 an agreement to strengthen institutional capacities for the implementation of local practices Integrated Risk Management (GIR), as a measure of adaptation to climate change in coastal and insular area of ​​the Colombian Caribbean.

With the above, UNDP highlights the need to strengthen the Caribbean region in the prevention, to natural hazards and develop strategies for GIR with a long-term regional.

According to the UNDP advisor, Andrés Franco, This project stems from work identifying needs, developed by the United Nations, UNETE, the Department of Risk Management (DGR) and the governments of the 8 departments caribbean.

As part of this alliance, actions that will get are ahead 8 Departmental Risk Management Plans, 8 municipal experience pilots and GIR incorporating climate change into planning instruments, 5 experience pilots climate change adaptation, regionalized maps caribbean on vulnerability to climate change, Caribbean regional strategy communication and public information GIR, expanding the capacity of monitoring relative rise of sea level and consolidate work with academia, social networking and corporate social responsibility projects.

Corpoguajira, has been strongly supporting the development and progress of the agreement, contributing information and advice necessary for the department of La Guajira is beneficial owner of the process developed by the United Nations.

All these actions will be the commitment of municipalities, complying in this way the development of the Millennium Development Goals, thereby streamlines departmental agenda from the CAR to develop effective strategies and impact against the effects of climate change.
