The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, required the company Avanzadas Soluciones de Acueducto y Alcantarillado - Asaa to immediately implement the corrective and preventive measures necessary to solve the problem of the overflow of manjoles and the dumping of sewage in the Bocagrande neighborhood of the District of Riohacha.
The environmental authority requested the implementation of a contingency plan to address this situation that negatively impacts the Bocagrande wetland. Additionally, it requested the beginning of the bidding processes necessary to counteract said effects..
This was revealed by Samuel Lanao Robles, General Manager Corpoguajira, who pointed out that this measure was adopted after a technical visit in which representatives of the environmental entity participated, the District of Riohacha and the utility company, in which it was evidenced that the latter has not done definitive work to avoid this problem.
"We require Asaa to carry out forceful actions that put an end to the environmental effects that put at risk not only the environment, but the health and life of the inhabitants, That is why we urge the District and the aqueduct and sewerage operator to act immediately., preferably before the start of the rainy season”, added.
In addition, explained that these entities must advance according to their competences in these solutions, in such a way as to mitigate the effects of such activity, for the welfare of society and the environment.
It is important to note that in 2018 Corpoguajira opened environmental investigation to Asaa and in 2019 filed charges against this company and the District for disposing without permission and without prior treatment, domestic wastewater in the Bocagrande wetland, declared as a priority ecosystem for Riohacha.
