Within the framework of the General Assembly of the Association of Regional Autonomous Corporations and Sustainable Development, the Minister of Environment, Juan Gabriel Uribe Vegalara and the Directors of the CARs, were linked to the “Sponsor a Turtle and Carry it in your Heart” program, led by Corpoguajira and Asocars.
During the activity the new godparents, participated in an environmental education activity, they made turtles with the origami technique, whom they baptized and liberated symbolically, sending a message to the country about the importance of preserving these wonderful endangered species.
Environmental authorities will be multipliers of the program, so that the network of sponsors is consolidated and meets the objectives of this protection strategy; Additionally, they will support the practice of behaviors that prevent environmental pollution in Colombia., especially the marine habitat of turtles.
"Adopt a turtle and carry it in your heart", is part of the conservation program for marine turtles Corpoguajira, which, through a series of participatory actions between different social actors, seeks to function as a support tool that promotes the conservation of these chelonians in the department of La Guajira.
The program was born out of the need to implement actions that allow awareness, education and research on reproductive biology, Satellite telemetry and habitat protection for sea turtles; to create a culture of conservation of these species, in the municipalities of Dibulla, Riohacha, Maicao, Manaure y Uribia (La Guajira).
The symbolic liberations will continue to be carried out in the main cities of the country, schools may participate, universities, natural persons, official and private companies and organizations throughout the country.
